Bringing Poetry to Life

Tuesday, July 8, 2025
to
11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Lunch is included)
SCSC Conference Center, 2075 Lookout Drive, North Mankato

Discover fresh, dynamic ways to teach poetry that spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and meet the Minnesota English Language Arts standards. In this interactive workshop, educators will explore strategies to help students connect with poetry—not just as readers, but as thinkers, creators, and performers.

We’ll dive into techniques for close reading, oral interpretation, and creative writing that build literacy skills and encourage meaningful engagement. Participants will leave with ready-to-use lesson ideas, performance-based activities, and assessment tools that support standards around reading comprehension, literary analysis, and writing craft.

Whether you're a poetry lover or looking for ways to make verse more approachable for your students, this session offers inspiration and practical tools to transform your poetry instruction. Lunch is included in registration.

This activity is made possible by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.
