Area Schools Recognized for Promoting Positive Behavior in School, Supporting Student Success

Several schools in the South Central Service Cooperative region were named this week as part of a Minnesota Department of Education effort to recognize schools "promoting positive behavior in school."

A press release from MDE says the 93 schools recognized showed a dedication to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or PBIS.

"PBIS is an evidence-based framework for preventing problem behavior, providing instruction and support for positive and cooperative behaviors, and supporting the social, emotional and behavioral needs of all students," the release said. "These schools and districts have demonstrated exceptional leadership in improving school climate, engaging the community and increasing student achievement."

The schools in the South Central Service Cooperative region recognized were Mankato East High School, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Secondary, Sibley East Elementary, Tri-City United Le Center K-8, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Elementary and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Middle School.

The recognized schools represent 41 districts across Minnesota, as well as five additional districts that were recognized by the MDE for having districtwide PBIS efforts.

"For over two decades, Minnesota schools and districts have embraced PBIS as a strategy to create positive and supportive learning environments. This year's honorees exemplify the dedication and perseverance required to implement and sustain PBIS over time," the release said.

South Central Service Cooperative remains committed to supporting our member districts in implementing and sustaining evidence-based practices like PBIS that improve outcomes for all students across our region.
