This regional collaborative community of practice is for Family & Consumer Science (FCS) Educators to explore best practices, share resources, and network.
According to the Minnesota Department of Education, "Family and Consumer Science education programs provide essential skills to develop healthy people and to empower individuals and families through their lifespan to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. FCS is the field of study focused on the science and art of living and working well in our complex world."
FCS represents a cross-section of occupations and industries that shares common values, perspectives, and goals that center people and their lived experience. Primary content areas within FCS include:
- Culinary arts, hospitality, and tourism
- Education and training
- Early childhood education
- Food science and nutrition
- Health management and wellness
- Housing and interior design
- Human/child development and family relations
- Personal and family finance
- Textile, apparel, and retailing
The Family and Consumer Science Community of Practice is involved in planning CRAVE, a regional event for high school students in culinary arts classes that showcases the food and hospitality industry.
